The staff of the Center for American Progress (CAP) have won voluntary recognition with IFPTE Local 70. CAP is an independent think tank located in Washington, DC, and the staff joins a growing number of non-profits seeking to give a stronger voice to workers in the non-profit sector. Joining the union "reflects our progressive values," Alyssa Peterson, a CAP staffer who works on poverty issues, told the Huffington Post. "We saw it as a natural extension of our institutional support for collective bargaining." Based in Washington, DC, IFPTE Local 70 now represents workers at the Center for Effective Government; Center for Economic and Policy Research; DC Jobs with Justice; Economic Policy Institute; Cleveland ACTS; International Labor Rights Forum; Many Languages One Voice; SumOfUs; United Students Against Sweatshops; and the Worker Rights Consortium.
