Work orders for the Metrorail system reached nearly 80,000 earlier this year, yet the backlog has been cut in half since then. Still, in a report published by NBC Washington on Thursday July 7th, Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) chose to lay the blame for the backlog on workers and attack their earnings. In a statement released Friday July 8th, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 responded that the real issue is poor WMATA management, adding that “the Congresswoman believes the answer to all of Metro’s problems is to cut wages and benefits while attacking the right of Metro’s workforce to have a union and a contract. She is wrong.” Read the complete response here.
