Amalgamated Bank announced that Sam Brown has been selected to lead the bank’s business development team and will expand its outreach to core constituencies such as unions, progressives and the Democratic Party. Brown joins Amalgamated Bank after serving in various positions with President Obama over the past eight years, most recently in the White House’s Office of Public Engagement. “We are a bank invested in serving working people, and Sam’s deep understanding of progressive organizations combined with his financial expertise makes him a perfect fit for us,” said Keith Mestrich, President and CEO of Amalgamated Bank, founded in 1923 by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. Striking Teamsters at TW Perry got a welcome boost from community and labor solidarity Tuesday when DC Jobs with Justice headed out to Springfield, Virginia to show their support. Also turning out were UFCW Local 400, Iron Workers Local 201 and the Metro Washington Council. The Teamsters have been on strike against the local contractor supply dealer since January 6. “We work hard but they want us to work even harder for less,” said Don Hollingsworth, who’s been at Perry for 13 years. “This is my first strike and I appreciate everyone’s support, it means a lot that you came out for us today” said Kenneth Bailey, a 20 –year employee.
