In a community without paved roads or electricity a hospital has provided nearly half a million free consultations. “Revolutionary Medicine: A Story of the First Garifuna Hospital” tells the story of that hospital on Honduras’ Caribbean coast, and screens free at 5p today at the AFL-CIO. Hospital founder Dr. Luther Castillo will lead discussion after the screening, co-sponsored by National Nurses United, the AFL-CIO and the Metropolitan Washington Council’s DC Labor FilmFest. Built and defended by the communities it serves, and led by the inspirational Dr. Castillo, the project has become a symbol of Garifuna self-determination.
