Due to the snowstorm, the Metro Washington Council and Community Services Agency's offices will be closed on Monday, January 25.
The deadline has been extended to buy tickets to this Wednesday's Union Night performance of "Sweat" at Arena Stage. The $40 tickets (regular $68) are going fast for the January 27 show at 7:30p; order by noon today at 202-488-4380 or email [email protected] -- and use code AFLCIO. Attendees will get to meet with members of the cast following the performance. "'Sweat' is a poignant look at what happens to a society when we are unable to maintain our dignity because of joblessness brought on by bad political decisions (like NAFTA) that last a lifetime!" says Toni White-Richardson, President of AFSCME Council 20 and AFSCME Local 1808, which purchased a block of 30 tickets to the show. J. Walter Cahill, former President and Business Agent of IATSE Local 22, has retired. After serving in the U.S. Army with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Cahill began working as a stagehand in 1968. From 1987 to 2004, Cahill served as Vice President, President, and Business Agent of Local 22. He is also on the Executive Committee of the AFL-CIO’s Union Veterans Council since its establishment in 2008. Cahill was elected to IATSE’s Executive Board in June 2000; he will continue serving as the political liaison for the IATSE. |
