Bort says that since Bloomberg bought the Bureau of National Affairs, which publishes the Directory as well as many other labor-focused publications, the once-ubiquitous union bug has been increasingly hard to spot. The Directory mailing “is only one example of a number of items being printed for unions that no longer carry the union label by BNA/Bloomberg,” says Bort. “If you get a publication or book from BNA Books that does not have a union label we need to let them know it is not OK.” Local 72 is checking to see whether the Directory itself was published by a union printshop; BNA Books/Bloomberg owns McArdle Printing Company. one of the oldest union companies in Washington, DC. |
