Scores of workers at the Washington Post rallied with a boisterous crowd of supporters -- including a small marching band -- on the sidewalk in front of the Post during the noon hour on Tuesday... On this date in 1986, Ed Meese, attorney general in the Ronald Reagan administration, urged employers to begin spying on workers... Sam Gompers: “We reward our friends and punish our enemies.”

Washington Teachers Union Local 6 president Liz Davis and Metro Washington Council president Jos Williams give away books to kids in First Book event at Whittier Elementary School in the District; On this date in 1965, the Gateway Arch, a 630-foot  parabola of stainless steel marking the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial on the waterfront of St. Louis, Missouri was completed after two and a half years; Martin Luther King Jr.: "History is a great teacher..."
