Nurses discussed the current unprecedented challenges, strategized for more effective mobilization and advocacy, and harnessed the power of politics – local and national – to stand up for their profession and their patients. Here’s today's labor history: On this date in 1785, the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of the City of New York was founded "to provide cultural, educational and social services to families of skilled craftsmen." The Society remains in existence to this day. Today’s labor quote is by Joe Hill, who said: "If the workers took a notion they could stop all speeding trains; every ship upon the ocean they can tie with mighty chains. Every wheel in the creation every mine and every mill; fleets and armies of the nation, will at their command stand still." Labor leader and songwriter Joe Hill was executed on November 19, 1915 on what many believe was a framed charge.
