The annual DC LaborFest launches today: the month-long festival celebrates the contributions of working men and women through films, music, art, history, and radio. The first event starts at 9a this morning with Union City radio’s annual May Day program on WPFW 89.3 FM, which will explore the efforts by women across the country to break into the construction trades, plus a LaborFest preview and visits with members of the Labor Radio/Podcast Network. Tonight at 7:15, catch SUPPORT THE GIRLS at AFI’s Silver Theatre (click here for our free ticket raffle!). Other LaborFest events this week include a tour of the AFL-CIO, two screenings of the new film DEAR WALMART, a brand-new tour of the Sam Gompers Memorial and, on Saturday night, don’t miss Carry It On: A Musical Celebration of Pete Seeger’s 100th Birthday.
