The Maryland/DC State Fed is urging calls and emails to the Senate Finance Committee this morning on the Fight for $15 legislation. The bill passed the House of Delegates last week but the Senate Finance Committee is expected to amend it to exempt businesses with 15 workers or less, which would include the vast majority of Maryland businesses. “We need for you to contact members of the Senate Finance Committee, and ask them for three things,” said Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO president Donna Edwards: vote against exempting businesses with 15 workers or less; vote to raise tipped workers minimum wage to 50% of the new minimum wage; and vote against any new amendments that will weaken the minimum wage for workers.
