DC firefighters welcomed a new fire chief to town on Monday. IAFF Local 36 said it’s looking forward to working with Gregory Dean, the former Seattle chief. “On behalf of the dedicated members of the DC Firefighters Association-Local 36, we congratulate Chief Dean on his new position,” said Local 36 president Ed Smith. Local 36 is calling for the hiring of additional firefighters and support staff as well as the purchase of new equipment. “Despite the many challenges that lie ahead, it is our intention to build a partnership with Chief Dean to rebuild our department and improve firefighter and public safety in our communities,” said Smith. Dean’s appointment must still be approved by City Council.
