Unemployment Compensation law was one of the topics at the Washington Teachers Union’s Representative Assembly meeting earlier this week when Claimant Advocacy Program staff attorney Lolita Martin (photo) addressed the attendees. “DC Unemployment Compensation law and regulations disqualify a teacher from receipt of benefits during the school summer recess based on whether or not they have ‘reasonable assurance’ of reemployment the following academic year or term,” Martin explained. The teachers also learned what to do “if they receive a letter of overpayment from the Department of Employment Services seeking reimbursement, penalties, and interest,” Martin added.
