![]() AFGE Local 12 is urging Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta to withdraw Ronald Reagan’s nomination from the Labor Hall of Honor (Mother Jones, Cesar Chavez and...Ronald Reagan? 8/31 UC). In a September 1 letter, Local 12 president Alex Bastani expressed the “shock and disappointment” of the 3,000 Department of Labor employees in the union, noting that “Reagan’s firing of striking PATCO workers in 1981 led to the diminution of organized labor in the United States.” The Labor Hall of Honor, the letter continues, “celebrates the bravery of strong, dedicated labor pioneers like Mother Jones, Cesar Chavez and A. Philip Randolph…(and) is not the appropriate arena for Ronald Reagan.” Bastani told Union City Radio last week that “if President Reagan is inducted into the Labor Hall of Honor we will be protesting outside the Department of Labor during the ceremony.” Comments are closed.
