![]() Andrew Gillum will headline the 2019 AFL-CIO Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Civil and Human Rights Conference, set for January 19-21 in Washington. Gillum served as mayor of Tallahassee, Florida, and was the Democratic nominee for governor of that state in the 2018 election. "His grassroots campaign style and his down-to-earth progressive politics embody the spirit of collective action we will be lifting up at the January conference," say AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Tefere Gebre and Steelworkers VP Fred Redmond, the Honorary Chair of the Conference, themed "The Fierce Urgency of Now". In addition to the MLK Awards Program & Reception, the conference agenda includes participation in the Women's March on Washington, a Town Hall, Issues Forum and local community service activity.
