By next month, as many as 95 union electricians will be working on completing Metro’s Silver Line. Phase II of the project includes construction of six new stations and 11.4 miles of track from Wiehle Station to Route 722; in addition to station and track work, IBEW Local 26 members have been constructing traction power substations, tie breaker stations, train control rooms and communication rooms. The train control portion alone includes nearly 1 million feet of cable. Final completion is slated for October 2019. The full report – and lots more photos – are in the current edition of InCharge, IBEW 26’s quarterly magazine.
