The annual Great Labor Arts Exchange returns this year to the place where it all started; 10000 New Hampshire Avenue. Festivities will go on from Thursday, June 25 to Saturday, June 27 at the former home of the National Labor College, now the ATU’s Rosa Parks/Tommy Douglas Training and Education Center in Silver Spring, MD. Join labor and community cultural workers from around the country for a weekend of workshops, films, discussion groups, slam poetry, open mic and jam sessions late into the summer night. “Come and enjoy one the best summer concerts of the year on Saturday, June 27, at 8:00 p.m.” urged Labor Heritage Foundation Executive Director Elise Bryant. “You can sing-a-long to some of your old favorites as well we enjoy the music and spoken word of the next generation of activist/artists -- including the winners of the 2015 songwriting/spoken word contest!” DC’s own Pam Parker will join nationally known singer-songwriter Charlie King to emcee the free concert. This year’s special guest artists are North Carolina’s premier vocal ensemble, Fruit of Labor. For more information and to register go here and click on the Great Labor Arts Exchange. In the words of a 2014 participant, “This TOTALLY ROCKS!”
