International Workers' Day, also known as May Day, commemorates the historic struggles and gains made by workers and the labor movement. This year's celebration is coming up on Wednesday and there are a number of actions and events coming up as part of it.
Labor leaders honor Key Bridge victims on Workers Memorial DaySunday was Workers Memorial Day, an annual day of remembrance for laborers killed or hurt on the job, started in 1989 by the AFL-CIO. Thousands of workers nationwide are estimated by the organization of labor unions to be injured or killed on the job each day. As part of the day's commemoration, AFL-CIO's Liz Shuler and Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO's Courtney Jenkins joined Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and leaders from advocacy organizations and the faith community to remember the six workers killed in the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March.
