![]() In commemoration of National Nurses’ Week, some 150 RNs from 105 Congressional districts in 20 states plus the District of Columbia gathered in Washington, DC this week to press legislators on key federal legislative priorities to guarantee healthcare for all Americans, strengthen protections for patients, their families, and hospital workers and increase the power of workers and their unions. "We regularly notice problems that put patient care at risk,” said Holy Cross RN Mar Mar Lwin-Heath (right), “Regular under-staffing of nurses, shortages of supplies, dirty spaces. That's why RNs organized at Holy Cross Health with NNU." The nurses joined Senator Bernie Sanders Wednesday as he introduced the Workplace Democracy Act. “We need real change so that nurses and all workers have the right to organize without being harassed,” said Lwin-Heath “The Workplace Democracy Act offers hope to nurses who want to join NNU to protect patients (and) improve care.” photos: Mar Mar Lwin-Heath (@NationalNurses Twitter); Maryland nurses visit Rep.
