Plumbers Local 5 apprenticeship school looks to strengthen Building Futures student pipeline8/1/2017
![]() CSA staff met with Plumbers Local 5 Apprenticeship School Training Director Tim Haley last week to discuss strengthening the CSA Building Futures student trainee pipeline. Building Futures’ pre-apprenticeship program trains and certifies students to take on careers in the construction industry, and for some, prepares them for entrance into one of more than 30 union apprenticeship opportunities among 16 building trades unions. This year, the Plumbers Local 5 Apprenticeship School, located in Lanham, Maryland, will accept a select few Building Futures students. The Plumbers’ training program is a five-year combined classroom and on-the-job “earn as you learn” curriculum. Plumber trainees start at about $30,000 in annual salary, which can increase to as much as $65,000 in their fifth year while still in training. Journeyworker plumbers can earn well into six figures. “When contractors hire a union-trained plumber, you’re getting the best-trained, most highly-skilled experts you can find,” said Tim Haley. “We look forward to CSA’s Building Futures students taking advantage of our state-of-the-art facilities and trainers.” photo: (l-r), CSA Assistant Executive Director Matt Losak, Local 5 Apprenticeship Training Director Tim Haley, Building Futures program Coordinator Sylvia Casaro-Dietert; photo by Kathleen McKirchy Comments are closed.
