 “Since the new year, we have had three weeks of negotiations with Giant & Safeway and we remain far apart on nearly every single issue.” reports UFCW Local 400. “These negotiations have been difficult, complicated, and frustrating.” Local 400 notes that “The reality is that in the last year, negotiations between these companies and UFCW locals throughout the country have taken far longer than usual. We are eager to get a new contract, but we need that contract to provide the things we have earned through our hard work: wages we can live on, schedules we can depend on, healthcare we can afford, and a retirement we can count on. We will not be rushed into a bad deal.” More negotiations are scheduled for this week.
