![]() Saying that "We can’t let a corporate merger in Europe take away good jobs and quality shopping options here at home," UFCW Local 400 has launched the #SaveMyStore campaign to bring together supermarket workers, the labor movement and the community to save eight area Giant Food stores -- two in Maryland and six in Virginia -- threatened with being sold off. The union has announced a series of town hall meetings over the next two weeks to discuss next steps. The first one is tonight in Fredericksburg, the next is tomorrow night in Waldorf, and next week's will take place in La Plata and Stafford. Click here for complete details. "Giant Food employees, union members, customers, friends and neighbors are all invited to join us," says Local 400's Karina Rosado. "With so many jobs at stake, together we will do whatever it takes to keep our communities intact." You can get the latest news on this campaign by texting SAVEMYSTORE to 698329. Correction: this story has been updated to reflect that the stores are threatened with being sold, not closed, and there are 2 in MD and 6 in VA. Comments are closed.
