“Some measure of justice has been won” as fired DASH bus driver returns to work

Latonya Robinson returned to work yesterday morning. Robinson was one of two key transit union activists fired earlier this year as DASH bus drivers were trying to organize with ATU 689. “There was never any doubt in our minds that her termination was unfair, and in retaliation for her union activism,” said ATU Director of Field Mobilization Chris Townsend. “The union left no stone unturned to win her return,” Townsend said, including mobilizing Robinson’s coworkers and the wider labor community, lobbying the DASH Board, Alexandria’s City Council and Mayor and publicizing the firings. While “some measure of justice has been won” with Robinson’s return to work and the recent achievement of a first union contract, ATU continues to raise concerns about DASH management’s union-busting, and urged the City of Alexandria to “get to the bottom of what exactly has been going on with DASH governance and DASH finances.”
