Courtney Meadows jumped into the fight headfirst last year when she was asked to join UFCW 400’s Contract Action Team, and hasn’t looked back since. “I won’t hesitate to tell a manager to stop being a jerk and start treating us with respect,” said Meadows, a WV Kroger worker. “And if [members] have a problem, I’m going to fight like hell to fix it.” In the midst of the contract battle with Kroger, Meadows “earned her stripes” and became a shop steward, and soon after was asked to join an intensive organizing drive in right-to-work Virginia. “This was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” Meadows explained. “And I’d go back and do it again in a heartbeat.”
