![]() The DC Workforce Investment Council (WIC) took the opportunity Tuesday to recognize the long-time leadership of the WIC’s outgoing labor representative, former Metro Washington Council president Jos Williams, as the new WIC Board was sworn in. “Jos provided stability, commitment, caring and vision to this body over 15 years,” said DC Deputy Mayor Courtney Snowden, “and we are pleased to recognize and thank him today.” Williams, in brief remarks after a gift presentation, said that “while this hasn’t always been the case on this body, we now have the alignment of the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, the Chairman of the WIC (Busboys and Poets owner Andy Shallal), the DC City Council and the WIC Executive Director to really make positive and beneficial change to our city’s workforce system so that it moves all residents into good jobs, keeps them there, and advances the economic development of our region.” The WIC is the state and local body mandated by the federal Workforce Innovations and Opportunities Act to oversee job training, placement, retention, use of labor market information and workforce systems integration in DC.
