A free 3-week pre-apprenticeship class will introduce students to the plumbing trade, which offers good, family-sustaining jobs. “The amount of women entering the trades is growing every year,” says Brennan, Women in the Trades Technical Assistance Manager at the Metro Washington Council’s Community Services Agency. In partnership with the Local 5 Plumbing Apprenticeship Program, the class provides construction math, blueprint reading, introduction to the plumbing trade tools and materials, hands-on training, and an orientation to the labor movement. “Our staff provides personalized assistance and will work with applicants to overcome any challenges they may have before entering the plumbing trade.” Deadline to apply is July 15.
